Kalen Thorien is a 25 year old professional skier based out of Salt Lake City, UT. Her life is spent chasing powder and exploring the backcountry. The girl is constantly on the go. Her summers are spent backpacking and climbing when she can but occasionally she will also work for the BLM fighting wild-land fires. Kalen is a certified bad-ass and is always down to #rockdiscrete.

1.) At what point did you know skiing could support your lifestyle?

About 8 years ago when I decided to change my lifestyle so skiing could support it, aka being a bum.

2.) What have been some of your toughest challenges this past season? How did you overcome them?

To trust my abilities, ski without ego, and pursue a life of fun. Julian Carr's write up about hitting Air Jordan was a huge lesson in how to calm the mind and trust your skiing. The Four Agreements helped with making sure I don't grow an ego, and anything by Ed Abbey reminded that my pursuit for adventure is and will be a beautiful one.

3.) 20 years form now, what do you want to be remembered for?

That fun truly is the best.

4.) Favorite thing to do outside of skiing?

Backpacking

5.) Whats your go to Discrete item?

6.) Favorite mountain to shred?

All the ones that I have to walk to and Alta when I'm feeling lazy

7.) If you' weren't a pro athlete what would you be doing?

The exact same thing but with a few more odd jobs thrown in.
