Lexi Dupont

globe trotter with a smile

Born and raised in Sun Valley, Idaho, my parents sent me down the hill on skis for the first time when I was two. I went on to ski race through high school and the Junior Olympics then headed to The University of Colorado. While in Boulder I changed my focus from ski racing to big mountain skiing and headed out on the Free Skiing World Tour.

Although my tour finishes were not that impressive, nothing could hold me back from perusing the life of a ski bum, chasing epic conditions across the globe, with cool people in cool places. Thanks to the legends Reggie Crist and Will Wissman, who introduced me to Alaska and taught me how to ski Alaskan spines, I was able to express my passion for the mountains outside of the competition world and confirm that there’s nothing in the world I’d rather do than ski the biggest lines I can find.

Q&A

1.) When was your 'breakout year' and how did it happen?

I would have to say my break out year was in 2009. I got the opportunity to go to Haines Alaska which was followed by a trip to Southern Utah and Svalbard Norway with Warren Miller for their film Wintervention. It was my first time filming and I got to work with the legends such as Tom Day, Will Wissman, Reggie and Zach Crist.

2.) What have been some of your toughest challenges this past season? How did you overcome them?

I think the toughest thing I went through this season was not only the mental battle of weather or not to go to Alaska given the brutal snow conditions but I also crashed in a contest and blew out my shoulder and had to get surgery in June. Thankfully we pulled out of Ak at the last minute and and went to Revelstoke and Norway and had a blast! Also my shoulder healed quickly and Im back to 100%.

3.) If you weren't a professional skier, what would you be doing?

I would probably be in the peace core or sailing professionally. Thats a hard one because I dont know what I would do without skiing.

4.) Favorite Discrete product?

My favorite Discrete product is probably the Augend snap back flat brim. I have been wearing it all summer long.

5.) Who are some of your favorite people to follow on Instagram?

I love following Yoga Girl because she tells it like it is and always has enlightening things to say plus amazing handstand photos. I also love following Gallery Coco. She is an amazing photographer and takes amazing portraits and we have been best friends since the third grade so I need to keep my tabs on her.

6.) When and where did you learn to ski? Who did you learn from?

My mom and grandfather taught me how to ski when I was 2 years old. It seams like my grandfather taught everyone how to ski and coached little groms until he was in his 80's. I hope to still be skiing when Im 80.

7.) Which athletes did you admire most growing up, and who do you look up to now?

Well I always looked up to my mom and still do. She was one of the first females to do a backflip on skis. I grew up admiring pictures of her laying out huge backflips that were framed all over our house.

8.) Sponsors?

Discrete, Eddie Bauer, K2, K2 Ski Alliance, Smith Optics, Swany Gloves, Play Hard Give Back, and Justins Nut Butter.
